Vulcanizer Interventions

By the time I met Latif, I had already been recording for years. Still, that moment felt like a beginning — a reminder of how vulcanizer shops surface quietly in the city, almost unnoticed, until you return and they’re simply there.

It was May 2025. I took a road I hadn’t used in a while. A new shop had appeared — corrugated sheets, timber beams, and a stack of tires. I pulled over.

Latif was there, mid-task. I introduced myself, shared what I was working on — the map, the archive, the interest in documenting spaces like his. He nodded and continued. No fuss.
